What is recorded here
Edmondstown Castle stands as a ruined tower house in gently undulating pasture, its rectangular shadow stretching across green fields near Corbally Church. The east and south walls still rise three metres high while the north wall has collapsed into rubble, leaving a rough slit in the south stone as the only visible feature. This quiet ruin in Farbill Barony has watched the land change since before the 1655 survey, holding its shape through centuries of weather and forgetting.
Edmondstown Castle situated in gently undulating pasture. Corbally Church (WM020-054----) and graveyard (WM020-054001-) 380m to NE. No castle depicted in this townland on the 1655 Down Survey map of Farbill Barony (NLI MS 723-4). Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a rectangular-shaped structure with N wall no longer upstanding. Castle described in 1983 as a rectangular-shaped structure (dims. 7.2m E-W x 6.4m N-S) of which the E, S and W walls survive upstanding, only the grass-covered footings of the N wall survive. The E wall (H 2.5-3.5m) and S walls (H 2.5-3.5m) are the best preserved with the W wall (H 1.5-2m) slightly lower and missing most of its facing stones. The N wall is almost completely destroyed and now visible as a pile of rubble. There are no cut stone features visible apart from a rough rectangular-shaped slit ope in the S wall. The interior is obscured by a pile of collapsed rubble. Castle is obscured by trees on Digital Globe aerial photography.
