Earthwork in Rathanny

In reclaimed wet pasture, N of a group of twelve barrows (LI040-026002-/013) and 50m NW of large impressive ring-barrow (LI040-026001-). Not marked on OSi historic maps. Potential site identified as a rectangular shaped area defined by a ditch during examination of aerial photographs by the Discovery Programme. Possible monument visible as rectangular shaped cropmark (dims. c. 12m N-S; 16m E-W) defined by a ditch on Digital Globe orthoimage taken 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages. The linear cropmarks visible on this aerial may be the remains of drainage ditches associated with land reclamation of nearby Rathanny House. Doubtful antiquity, the earthwork may be defined by drainage ditches associated with post-1700 land reclamation works in this field. Earthwork is visible on oblique aerial photographs (CUCAP AVT026; AYO038) taken 20/07/1968 and 10/07/1969.
