Earthwork in Garryncahera

Earthwork

What is recorded here

In pasture close to the top of a knoll. Not depicted on historic OSi maps. Identified by Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 131.01 and 130.02; AP 5/2022) as a circular shaped earthwork with a bank to the N running E-W. Visible as a circular-shaped depression (diam. 20m) enclosed by a possible bank from E-N-SW with a field bank to the N running E-W on OSi orthophoto taken between 2005-12 and on Google Earth orthoimage dated 20/09/2020. Earthworks may be the result of post-medieval quarrying rather than the remains of an archaeological monument. See attached Bruff image showing monument labelled Bruff 131.01 and 131.02 and McCloud black and white aerial. Compiled by: Martin Fitzpatrick Date of upload: 20 April 2021
