Earthwork in Cloongeel

In Liscongill Wood, between N bank of River Dalua and S bank of old river channel. Roughly triangular platform (c. 50 NNW-SSE; c. 39m NW-SE; c. 21m NE-SW) composed of river mud. Interior slopes down to NE and pocked with animal burrows; c. 12m NW of S corner and c. 2.5m in from SW side, is roughly rectangular area (5.3m by 3.8m) defined on three sides by low earthen bank (int. H 0.3m) with shallow external depression (D 0.25m). According to local tradition, site of 'fort'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
