Earthwork in Ballyvalode

On a gentle S-facing slope, on a low rise, in pasture, with good views from NW-N-NE and from SE-S-SW, abutting a land drain to E which marks townland boundary with Moanroe. Enclosures (LI024-013/014----) lie 105m to SE and 130m to E, respectively. Depicted on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a penannular-shaped earthwork which is open to SE. Monument surveyed by the ASI in 1999 and described as a raised circular-shaped area (20m N-S; 21m E-W) defined by a scarp (Wth 3m; H 0.6m), the interior has a slight S-facing slope, is dry and clear of overgrowth. There is no obvious entrance feature. A field boundary running N-S flanks the base of the scarp from ENE-E-SE. Monument is visible as a circular-shaped cropmark, with an annexe adjoining from WSW-W-N-NNE on OSi orthophotos taken 2005-2012, on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-2013 and on Google Earth orthoimage taken 18/11/2018.
