Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Situated in slightly elevated position, ringfort (diam. c. 52m) defined by a large earthen bank (max. Wth c. 7m, int. H 2.6m, ext. H 3.5m). A large gap (Wth 4m) at NNE probably indicates the position of the original entrance, now widened. No evidence of fosse, the outer face of which has been cut back by earth-moving machinery. (JKAS 1904, 236-7) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran.
