Domnall Gerrlámhach was born in Munster, County Cork, Ireland, the short-armed son of Muirchertach Ua Briain who later became King of Dublin. His father installed him in that northern seat, perhaps marking him as the chosen successor, yet Domnall never matched his parent's reach. After Toirdelbach Ua Conchobair expelled him and his father died, Domnall vanished from history until his death in Lismore in 1135, leaving behind a kingdom lost and a name remembered only for its strange epithet.
