Concrete dam, built c.1940, across mountain stream, having iron railings to walkway along top. Rectangular concrete compartmentalized salmon pools to southeast.
This dam is a reminder of the increased interest in the provision of hydro-electric power in Ireland following the establishment of the Free State at a time which self-sufficiency was being explored and examined. The structure is representative of the engineering and technical achievements of that time.
