Dallaun

In farmyard. Removed; no visible surface trace. OS Field Book of 1839 gives 'a large stone, about 6ft high and about 15in thick, about 16ft in girth.' (Grove White 1905-25 vol. 3, 331). Broken 'when the field in which it stood was tilled' some years prior to 1908 (ibid.). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Likely dating to the early medieval period, the stone may have had a ritual or commemorative function. Its destruction during field clearance suggests it was once a notable local landmark, possibly associated with folklore or ancestral memory.
