Cross-slab in Kilturra

In Kilturra graveyard (SL038-121002-). A fragment of a sandstone cross-slab (0.18m x 0.22m) was found in the graveyard; the grooves of the cross measured 10-15mm in width (pers. comm. M. B. Timoney). This fragment is now in the NMI (DU018-223----). Probably dating to the early medieval period, this cross-slab fragment may have originally marked a Christian burial or served as a memorial. Such stones often carried religious or symbolic significance, reflecting early Christian art and funerary practices in the region.
