Kiltiernan is a walled graveyard on a south-facing slope in County Dublin, marked by a small cross-incised granite slab outside the church. The slab measures forty-five centimetres long, forty-six centimetres wide and twelve centimetres thick, yet it still points toward the building and the buried dead. A person may have stood there in rain or sunlight, reading the cross as a promise that the place remained remembered.
