Cross-slab in Dungooly

A small roughly dressed sandstone slab is to be found W of the church (LH004-006001-). It has a simple incised Latin cross with T-shaped terminals on its arms and a double circle around the junction of the cross. (PRIA 61C, 118,121) Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 10 November 2011

Date likely to the early medieval period, possibly 7th to 10th century AD, based on the cross design. The double circle may indicate a ritual or protective function, common in early Christian contexts.
