Coghlanstown West preserves a limestone cross shaft bearing the name Eustace, Lord Portlester, and the year 1462. The block now sits inside a blocked church doorway, turned into a font rather than lost, while raised shields and fluted panels still catch light on its sides. A dead lord may have stood beside that cross, watching children be baptized or men swear oaths, before the church fell quiet and the stone waited for someone to carry it elsewhere.

In the blocked up S doorway of a medieval church (KD029-005001-). Portion of a limestone cross shaft (H 0.76m; L 0.25m; Wth 0.18m), set in part of a possible font (KD029-005007-), is carved to allow a narrow rectangular projecting collar girdle a mortice in its upper end. The sides of the shaft are decorated with slightly raised shields above fluted panels and there is an inscription, ‘Eustace, Lord Portlester, 1462’, in 17th-century style lettering.
