Moone High Cross stands fifty-four centimetres taller than most Irish crosses, its granite shaft carved with Daniel in the lion’s pit and a spiral sun that predates Christianity. Buried for centuries beside the church, it re-emerged in 1835 and 1893, each fragment returning like a forgotten limb remembered. The apostles still watch from its base, unchanged since the day the carving knife stopped moving.
