Coney Island sits in the River Fergus estuary in County Clare, named for the rabbits that once swarmed its green fields. Saint Brendan founded a church there in 550, and by 1841 one hundred and forty-five people called the island home. The last resident left in 1986, abandoning the ruins and memories to the tide.
