Knavinstown still keeps a long, ivy-clad stone ledge outside its graveyard, perhaps made for resting coffins before burial. The edge has tumbled and the ivy has thickened, but the shape remains large enough to carry death itself for a moment. People may have set heavy wooden boxes there at dusk, paused beside them, and walked home with the road still ringing in their ears.

On the roadside outside the entrance to a graveyard (KD022-011001-). A long, ivy clad and partially tumbled, stone built, rectangular structure (L 3m; Wth 1m; H 0.8m) may be the remains of a coffin rest. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 05 December 2011
