Clonea Bridge

Three-arch rubble stone road bridge over river, c.1780. Random rubble stone piers with squared rubble stone triangular cut-waters to south-west, and random rubble stone parapets with lime mortar, and rubble stone coping. Three round arches with cut-stone voussoirs, and rubble stone soffits having traces of lime render over. Sited spanning Clodiegh River with slightly humped tarmacadam deck, and grass banks to river.

Clonea Bridge is an attractive structure of considerable age that retains its original form and character. The traditional construction in rubble stone serves to form a picturesque feature in the centre of the village, while the construction of the arches that have retained their original shape is of technical or engineering significance.
