Clement's Bridge

Triple-arch stone road bridge, built c.1750, over Dromore River. Cut stone oversailing saddle coping to parapets and wing walls of random coursed rubble, coping extended on east side. Random coursed rubble spandrels. Flat cut cappings to rubble V-cutwaters on west elevation and sloped rendered cappings to ashlar V-cutwaters on east elevation. Rubble voussoirs to equal-sized elliptical arches with rubble soffits. Battered buttresses to approaches at river side.

A robust and elegant road bridge over the Dromore River, built of rubble stone but with long stretches of cut-stone copings adding a strong character to the bridge and approaches. It is an excellent example of the design and construction of eighteenth century road bridges, as it retains much of its form and fabric intact. It is testement to the skill of the engineers and stone masons who were involved in its construction.
