What is recorded here

Church Island in Lough Owel holds the last burial recorded there, a young man drowned while swimming horses across the lake during the Patron of Portloman around 1820. His death stopped that festival, leaving the small island with its medieval oratory, elder trees and reed-choked graveyard as a place where joy turned suddenly to loss. St Lomán is still connected to the island, remembered through the church, the old graveyard and the story that he lived on coarse green herbs growing beside the water.
Church Island is recorded as a island in County Westmeath. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
