What is recorded here

O'Donovan saw a stone arch still standing between the nave and chancel in 1839. The arch has fallen now, the east wall is broken, and the west foundation lies exposed inside a grave plot. The church has stopped being a building and become a marker in the ground. People are still naming it, photographing it, and burying new memories beside it.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 22 December 2009 Revised by: J. Farrelly Present remains consist of nave and chancel church, standing at centre of square graveyard (CW013-014002-). Foundations of W gable, exposed in adjacent grave plot, consist of massive, regular granite blocks with no visible mortar. According to O'Donovan (OSL 1839, 109-10), nave (dims. 11.9m x 7.3m) and chancel (6.4m x 5.5m) divided by 'stone pointed arch'. Arch (Wth c 2.8m) has collapsed (ITA Survey 1945).
