Church (in ruins), Cross, Graveyard

Cross

What is recorded here

Kinneigh Church in County Carlow still stands in ruin beside a graveyard and a small narrow cross base socketed north of the west gable. The church likely served as a local worship and burial place before decay took it, while the cross marked sacred ground or commemorated someone now forgotten. People may have prayed at the cross, buried their dead beside the church, and passed the place down as a familiar landmark before ruin changed its shape.
Associated with Kinneigh Church (CW003-005001-). Small, narrow socketed cross base N of W gable of the church. Corlett, C. 'The Hollywood slabs - some late medieval grave slabs from west Wicklow and neighbouring counties.' In JRSAI 133 (2003), 86-110. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 7 September 2009
