Church in ruins

On a low rise at S end of a small house cluster called Cloneen; it stands within a roughly triangular graveyard (GA056-055002-). According to OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 186), 'the present old church of Kill-Eidhne [which] is certainly not more than 4 centuries old, ... [probably] occupies the site of a more ancient church'. What survives is a poorly preserved and ivy-mantled rectangular building (NW-SE; L > 8.15m, Wth 5.4m), probably of medieval date. Only half of SE gable and adjoining sections of SW and NE side-walls stand above foundation level. The only surviving architectural features are a small rectangular window in SW wall, and part of the embrasure of a centrally placed pointed arch window in SE gable. This gable fell during a storm early in 1990. No visible surface trace survives of the rectangular building labelled 'R.C. Chapel' (GA056-055003-), which is shown on 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map on N boundary of the graveyard. A holy well (GA056-058----) lies c. 200m to N and a castle (GA056-054001-) 280m to NW.
