Church (in ruins)

Ivy-covered ruins of post-1700 C of I church stands in the centre of a rectangular shaped graveyard (LI032-072002-). Impossible to inspect building as it is covered in ivy however the E gable wall measuring 0.75m thick suggests a date in the post-1700 period. Blocked up flat-headed doorway in centre of W gable also suggests a post-1700 date for this building. Westropp recorded that a modern church was built on the site of the medieval parish church (Westropp 1904-5, 447). Church described in 1943 as following; 'There are considerable remains of a building on this site, but there is no architectural feature which would indicate the date of the fabric. The oldest tombstone in the surrounding graveyard (which is still in use) is a low slab bearing the date 1717. A charter of John given in 1185 and confirmed by Turlough O'Brien in 1200 granted the church of "Cahercornii" to Monasteranenagh Abbey (LI031-050004-)' (O'Kelly 1942-3, 180).
