What is recorded here
Situated at the crest of an E-facing slope. This is the parish church of Ballylaneen within a circular graveyard (diam. 60m) defined by a drystone wall (Wth 1-1.7m; H 0.8-1.3m) or a stone-faced field bank. There is cairn material (dims. 5.5m x 3m; H 0.4m) internally to the SE of the centre but there is no visible remains of a church or of burial. A font (WA024-037003-), now at Ballylaneen graveyard (WA024-025002-) c. 600m to the NE, was probably removed from here (O'Flanagan 1929, 26). (Power 1896, 200-201)
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
