What is recorded here
Located on a NW-facing slope on the SE shore of Bannow Bay. There is a local tradition of a church at Newtown/Vernegly, but the location is not precise. This may be the church site, known in the mid-19th century when it was described then as being at a place called Oversands (Tuomey 1850, 204), although at c. 2 km from Bannow church (WX045-045001-) it is more than the half mile (c. 800m) suggested by Tuomey.
