Church

What is recorded here

Unlocated church within the townland of Killooly that is mentioned in the nineteenth century OS letters, which may be a mistake for a church called Kill hUailleach [Killooly] in Co. Westmeath (O'Flanagan 1927, vol. II, 48). According to local tradition this church may have been located near to Killooly Hall (Shaw Rev. 1971, 64-5). The church referred to in the OS letters is to a church in Co. Westmeath, possible that there was never a church located in the townland of Killooly. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011
