Church in Glebe (coonagh By.)

No surface remains visible of Oola Church which was described in 1826 as near the 'village of Ulloe are the ruins of an old church and castle [LI033A008002-]' (Fitzgerald and McGregor 1826, 281). In 1840 the Ordnance Survey letters recorded that 'no part of the old Church of this parish is now to be seen nor has been these many years, but its grave yard is still used as a cemetery' (OSL, 129). Westropp (1904-5, 439) recorded the following details on Oola; 'Wlys and Wide chapel, in deanery of Wethney, 1302. Nicholas Panning was granted Owlys, 1542 (Fiant, 311); Thady MacBrene, of Ullay, chaplain, 1551 (Fiant, 881), Owlo all repaired. In deanery of Tipperary, 1615. Site - The church was in the graveyard [LI025-016002-], near the railway, and was levelled before 1840. Ulloe Church ruins stood in 1826 (Fitzgerald, 1, p. 281)'.
