Church in Bawnlahan (carbery West (w.d.) By., Myross Par.)

In a coniferous forest, at the foot of a steep N-facing slope near the S bank of the river which flows into Béal na Mara at the head of Castle Haven harbour. According to local information, this is the remains of a church which was used during the period of the penal laws (1690 to 1750 AD). It consists of a rectangular area (9m E-W; 4.5m N-S) defined by a low ivy-covered bank (Wth 1m; H 0.4m). Wood debris and ground ivy cover the interior.
