Chimney in Ballycorus

Freestanding chimney, built 1836, on a circular plan. Decommissioned, 1863. Now disused. Rock faced cut-granite banded coursed rubble granite walls on battered base with cut-granite cantilevered spiral staircase ascending to cut-granite cantilevered platform below cut-granite capping. Round-headed opening (base) with rock faced granite ashlar voussoirs. Set on gorse-covered outcrop.

An eye-catching chimney erected by the Mining Company of Ireland (MCI) representing an important component of the early nineteenth-century industrial heritage of south County Dublin (cf. 60260048).
