Children's burial ground in Clonbrock Demesne

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Until twenty-five years ago, a children's burial ground stood on a Clonbrock Demesne hillock. The ESB removed it during land clearance, erasing the last visible trace. Children may have played beside those graves, learning death as an ordinary neighbour rather than a distant terror.
On a hillock in former demesne land. According to local information, there was a CBG located here until c. 25 years ago; it was removed during land clearance carried out by the ESB. No visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
