Site of Doon Castle — Report the wrong picture

Within an enclosure (GA073-073001-). In existence in 1574, when 'Done' castle was in the possession of 'Tege McMelaghlin OKelly' (Nolan 1901b, 120). The OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 625) record that 'no part of the walls is now standing'. No visible surface trace survives. Doon Upper Castle was held by Tege McMelaghlin OKelly in 1574 and is remembered as part of the medieval defensive landscape of the region, reflecting the power dynamics of Gaelic lordships in late 16th-century Ireland.
