Chaplaincy

Detached two-bay two-storey with attic former house, built c.1880, having gabled half-dormer window, single-storey box bay and lean-to porch to ground floor front (north) elevation. Now in use as chaplaincy. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks, timber bargeboards to dormer and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls. Square-headed window openings to first and ground floor, shouldered-headed openings having scroll detail under render hood mouldings to first floor windows and round-headed window to half-dormer. One-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows and render sills throughout. Recessed round-headed door opening under lean-to porch to timber panelled door with fanlight. Wrought-iron pedestrian gate, flanking render piers and boundary wall with wrought-iron railings and cast-iron name plaque to front of site.

A handsome house displaying interesting features including hood mouldings, timber sliding sash windows, and scrolled corners to window openings. Built as a pair with the neighbouring detached house, these houses are representative of the scale, form and quality of contemporary dwellings that were built in this area, adjacent to the university, as the city expanded west into the growing suburbs.
