Cawdor Castle, including its walled garden, was built by the Clan Campbell in the 16th century, with significant renovations occurring in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is important as the ancestral seat of the Earls of Cawdor and for its association with Shakespeare's *Macbeth*, which mentions the title "Thane of Cawdor."
