What is recorded here
Detached Catholic church, built 1981-2. Building approximately L-plan with two large mono-pitched wings set almost at right angles to each other. Door set within flat-headed opening within small lean-to porch. Window openings generally flat-headed, although some have sloping heads. Exposed portion of rear wall of one wing is entirely glazed. Frames are metal and fixed and glazing is plain. Single-pitched roof finished with natural slate, with cast metal rainwater goods. Freestanding recent crucifix stands close to road. Church set back from road within own grounds.
This strikingly modern church designed by Wejchert Architects is in sharp contrast to the nearby Saint Mary's Church. It forms a counterpoint that enriches the streetscape.
