Cathal Ó Searcaigh, born in Gortahork, County Donegal, is a modern Irish language poet whose confident internationalism channelled new possibilities into contemporary writing. Reared on a small hill-farm at the foot of Errigal, he drew from a remote Irish-speaking community to produce work that broke traditional stereotypes and opened space for alternate sexualities. His explicit homoerotic poems and broader thematic scope challenged dominant markers of Irish identity, creating a distinctive voice within the Gaeltacht tradition.
