The precise location of a castle in the townland of Rochestown has not been identified. Westropp (1906-7, 90) recorded the following details about Rochestown Castle; '1540 Baile an Roisdigh estate of Clann Daug (Rental). 1583 W. Bourke, Castel Roche C[astle]. (Des. R., 37). In 1655 it is called Longford (D.S.A., 14). 1666 Confirmed to Col. Clayton, and 1678 to Dr. Arthur's heiresses (Act Sett.)'.

Rochestown Castle was held by the Clann Dálaigh in the mid-16th century, as recorded in a 1540 rental. It is remembered as part of the historical estate holdings of this Gaelic Irish family in the region.
