Simon Clifford raised the castle in 1227 according to the Annals of Clonmacnoise, yet no marker remains to show where its walls stood. The place has become a ghost inside its own name, remembered only through a castle that cannot be found.
Unlocated castle within the townland of Rahan Demesne that is mentioned in the OS Letters, however this reference is to an upstanding building possibly a castle (OF016-015009-) that is marked as an Abbey on the current edition of the 6-inch map (O'Flanagan 1933, vol 2, 49). Unlocated castle within the townland of Rahan Demesne, which according to the Annals of Clonmacnoise was built in 1227 by Simon Clifford.
