Castle

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Fire consumed the Lissmagh castle in 1596, erasing most of its shape and purpose from memory. That sudden loss may have denied its builders a legacy, yet it also removed a tool of control from the county. The absence is not empty; it is a warning about how quickly human arrogance can be deleted.
There is a reference to a castle being burnt at Lissmagh in 1596 (Nolan 1901, 22). There is no other evidence of this castle. It was not encountered. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
