Castle

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Kilscannell in County Limerick once held a castle whose walls vanished before memory, leaving only a gap in the land where a tower should stand. The missing castle may have been a boundary marker, a warning light or a forgotten home, but the absence itself has become the shape of the place. People still drop marbles, coins or jar lids into that hidden circle because the castle never left; it simply stopped answering with stone.
Castle in this townland mentioned in 16th and 17th century documents (Westropp 1906-7, 213); exact location of site not known. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
