What is recorded here

Kilcommock Glebe, County Longford. An early 17th-century map places a castle east-northeast of the church, yet no field mark has answered that line. The drawing asserts what the soil withholds: a tower, a yard, a human claim to the landscape. Forgetting is the local magic here, not invention.
A castle is depicted on an early 17th-century map of Rathcline barony (BL, Cotton MS Augustus I.i.48) to the ENE of the church (LF022-032----). Its precise location has not been identified. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 4 November 2012
