Grange More Castle never rose because its builder stopped halfway, leaving behind only an old stumpe rather than a defensible home. Redmond MaCrath of Thurlesbeg still claimed the incomplete site in 1640, suggesting that ownership could attach to ambition itself before stone was set. That halted castle may still lie beneath the grassland, excluded from the finished world but never erased from the memory of the place.

In flat grassland with good views in all directions. Silage pit and slatted sheds built on possible site of castle which is described in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as an 'old stumpe of a Castle not halfe built' with Redmond MaCrath of Thurlesbeg listed as proprietor in 1640 (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 243). The sheds and silage pit are located where Grangemore House formerly stood, though short stretches of walling still survive. No remains visible of any castle walls or medieval stonework.
