What is recorded here
Castle in Garrynafela is not a ruin but an absence, marked only on Larkin's 1808 map of County Westmeath. The land holds no stone, trench or broken wall for hands to touch. It exists as a line drawn by another person, perhaps recording a building already erased or a mistake never corrected.
No surface remains of a castle depicted at this location on Larkin's 1808 map of Co. Westmeath (NLI, MS 46,580).
