Castle: unclassified in Clonacody, County Tipperary. James Earle of Ormond and Theobald Butler of Knocknaniny Irish Papist shared Cloghnocody when broken walls still stood there. Clonacody House appeared much later, and the castle has no known position beside it.

According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) in 1640 the lands of 'Cloghnocody' were owned by 'James Earle of Ormond' and 'Theobald Butler of Knocknaniny Irish Papist' and upon 'these lands are the broken Walls of an old little Castle' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 193). The present townland house, Clonacody House, was built c. 1780 and is a three-bay three-storey over basement house with a one-bay deep two-storey addition to the W and a single-storey linking to a further four-bay two-storey block. James Earle of Ormond and Theobald Butler of Knocknaniny held lands in Clonacody in 1640, on which the remains of an old castle stood; it is remembered as a site associated with pre-17th century landholding and conflict in the region.
