What is recorded here

Carrick castle vanished before anyone recorded it, leaving only a name on the Down Survey of 1655-6. That absence is not a failure of knowledge but a clue about power: castles were built to be seen, remembered and obeyed. In County Kildare, forgetting one castle may have been an act of resistance.
