No castle wall remains, but the rock outcrop above the Blackwater River still holds the shape of a failed fight. Tradition claims MacCarthys began building there before O'Callaghans attacked and drove them out. Road works nearby later turned up bones and swords, suggesting the ground remembered what the surface forgot.
