Castle Harrison walls may contain stones taken from the lost Ballynageragh castle, according to local tradition. The Roches held that place on a north-facing slope above the Awbeg River until seventeenth-century events destroyed it. Nothing visible remains at the old site, but each stone reused in a newer wall continues to carry the shape and history of the castle that disappeared.

On N-facing slope, c. 600m NE of Awbeg River. No visible surface trace of castle. According to local tradition (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 3, 186), 'stones of the old castle were used in building Castle Harrison house'. Castle of the Roches (Healy 1988, 305), reputedly destroyed in 17th century (ibid.). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
