Castle in Ballinglanna is a sub-rectangular ringwork in improved pasture, its earthen scarp and wide fosse still marking a small defensive enclosure on a gentle SE-facing slope. The eastern entrance is broad, the surrounding ditch is uneven, and two rounded water ponds sit at opposite outer angles. Inside, faint cultivation furrows cross the ground beside a small collapsed hole, suggesting the castle later became farmed rather than abandoned. People may have lived, worked and forgotten the military purpose there, leaving only shape and water behind.

In improved pasture, on a gentle SE-facing slope. Sub-rectangular area (dims 24m N-S; 25m E-W) defined by scarp (Wth 2.85-4.2m; H 1.4-2.75m) and external fosse (Wth 5.85-9.25m; D 0.25-1.6m). The scarp is best preserved to S, W and N-sides, being llower along the E-side. An entrance (Wth 6m) in the E-ESE appears to have been widened. The fosse is best preserved on S, W and N-sides and is narrowest and shallowest on the E side. There are ponds of water (diam. c. 10m) at SE and SW angles of the fosse. Interior has a gentle E-facing slope and has remains of cultivation furrows (long axis ESE-WNW). Large hole (dims. 1.5m NE-SW; 1.2m NW-SE) at S may be a collapsed animal burrow.
