Kilfinnan Castle stands on the Cork coast overlooking Glandore harbour, its southwest corner marked by a rectangular tower house with thick battered walls. The structure has been converted into residential quarters with inserted doors and windows, blending medieval defence into domestic life. Whether the original builders intended watchfulness or residence, the stone still holds both purposes without apology.

The tower house at Kilfinnan was likely built in the 16th or 17th century by a local Gaelic family, possibly the MacLeans or Macleans of Dufferin, who controlled the area. It is remembered as a strategic coastal stronghold and an example of early defensive architecture in the region.
