What is recorded here
Detached four-bay single-storey former engine shed, built c.1885, now converted to apartments. Pitched fibre-cement slate roof, with replacement timber bargeboards and rainwater goods. Hammer-dressed limestone walls with red brick quoins and with red brick plinth to north-west end. Round-headed window openings with red brick block-and-start surrounds and granite sills, and similar round-headed door opening with replacement timber fittings. Round-arched engine entrance to south-east gable infilled and converted to windows. Detached water tower adjacent, now converted into residence and having recent three-bay single-storey extension, and having hipped replacement slate roof, hammer-dressed limestone walls and plinth, round-headed former doorway to north-west face with hammer-dressed surround and partly infilled with recent timber window.
These buildings, though converted to domestic use, retain their essential character and detailing. Their hammer-dressed stonework and round-headed openings give them a unified appearance. The brick dressings to the locomotive shed provide a pleasing textural and colour contrast. The structures, which evoke the railway history of the district, form a group of technical and social history interest with the railway station nearby.
