Caitlín Ní Thoirbheird was born in Boyle, County Roscommon, on 5 May 1891, the daughter of coach-maker James Turbitt and Mary Gahan. She became a Gaelic League activist and Irish language educator, serving as assistant organiser in Roscommon in 1918 and county secretary in 1920. She continued teaching Irish through the County Roscommon Vocational Education Committee until retiring on 30 June 1957, then died in Boyle on 24 July 1969.
